BaZi Health (八字健康): How the five elements map to organs

Theme Reading BaZi Health 八字健康 Updated July 22, 2026 · 8 min read

Traditional BaZi reads health through the same five element system that governs Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Each element corresponds to a specific organ system, sensory opening, tissue, and emotion. A chart with a weak or absent element points toward vulnerabilities in that element's organ system. A chart with excess of the element that controls your Day Master similarly stresses the target organ.

This is not medical advice. It is a metaphysical framework that a good reading can use to prompt useful lifestyle attention — diet, seasonal habits, stress management — for the systems most likely to be under load. Diagnosis and treatment stay with your doctor. This is context.

Five Element to organ correspondences

The classical TCM mapping, unchanged for two thousand years:

ElementYin Organ (Zang)Yang Organ (Fu)SenseTissueEmotion
Wood (木)LiverGallbladderEyesTendons, ligamentsAnger, frustration
Fire (火)HeartSmall intestineTongueBlood vesselsJoy, mania
Earth (土)SpleenStomachMouthMusclesWorry, overthinking
Metal (金)LungsLarge intestineNoseSkin, body hairSadness, grief
Water (水)KidneysBladderEarsBones, marrowFear, will

Read the chart against this table: which elements are present, which are missing, which are excessive, which are under attack from clashes or from the controlling element.

Weak or missing Day Master element

The Day Master's own element being weak or unsupported in the chart indicates vulnerabilities in that element's organ system. A weak Wood Day Master (Jia or Yi) with insufficient Water Resource: liver and gallbladder tendencies, potential eye issues, chronic tendon strain, elevated frustration levels.

Similarly: weak Fire → heart and small intestine sensitivity, circulation issues. Weak Earth → digestive weakness, low muscle mass, tendency to worry. Weak Metal → respiratory or skin conditions, grief-processing difficulty. Weak Water → kidney/bladder issues, bone density, hearing, fear-based decision-making.

See Day Master strength analysis to determine whether your DM element is weak, and favorable god to see what elements support it.

Excess controlling element

The reverse pattern: if the element that controls your Day Master is excessive in the chart, the target (your DM's element) is under chronic attack. A Yang Wood Day Master with excess Metal in the chart — Metal chops Wood — puts sustained pressure on the liver/gallbladder/tendon system.

Common patterns:

Branch clashes and health

Six branch clash pairs (六冲) in the earthly branches are classical health signals when active in the chart or the current year:

Active clashes (chart pillars clashing each other, or a year pillar clashing a natal pillar) are elevated-attention windows for the corresponding organ systems.

2026 Bing Wu: a Fire-heavy year

2026 is Bing Wu — Yang Fire stem on Yang Fire branch. Both cycles are Fire. This is one of the more Fire-intense years in the sixty-year cycle. Health implications by Day Master:

Lifestyle: strengthening a weak element

Classical BaZi and TCM prescribe five-element strengthening through diet, color, direction, activity, and season. General guidance:

See Five Elements Wu Xing for the underlying theory.

This is not medical advice

Explicit disclaimer. BaZi is a metaphysical framework developed centuries before modern medicine. It correlates historically with observed health patterns because the underlying TCM organ theory did the observational work over centuries. It is not diagnosis. It does not replace doctors, tests, or evidence-based treatment.

Use the chart as a prompt: pay attention to systems the chart flags. Get regular checkups on organ systems your chart marks as vulnerable. Modify lifestyle. Do not skip medical care because a BaZi reading was reassuring, and do not panic if it was concerning. The chart is a probability distribution across a range of outcomes; your care is the intervention that shifts the distribution.

Frequently asked questions

How does BaZi read health?

Through Five Element organ correspondences from TCM. Weak elements in your chart, or excess of the controlling element, indicate vulnerabilities in the corresponding organ systems.

Which organs go with which element?

Wood = liver/gallbladder/eyes/tendons. Fire = heart/small intestine/tongue/blood. Earth = spleen/stomach/mouth/muscles. Metal = lungs/large intestine/nose/skin. Water = kidneys/bladder/ears/bones.

Does 2026 affect health?

2026 is a double-Fire year (Bing Wu). It stresses Metal Day Masters (respiratory, skin), depletes Wood Day Masters (burnout, liver), and can overheat Fire Day Masters (cardiac, mood).

What are the six clashes and how do they affect health?

Six earthly branch clash pairs (子午, 丑未, 寅申, 卯酉, 辰戌, 巳亥) that stress the corresponding organ systems when active in the chart or the current year.

Is BaZi health reading medical advice?

No. It is a metaphysical framework based on centuries-old TCM organ theory. It can prompt useful lifestyle attention but does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment.

Can I strengthen a weak element?

Classical practice recommends diet, color, direction, seasonal alignment, and activity choices matched to the element. Green foods for Wood, red for Fire, and so on.

How do I know which element is weak in my chart?

Run your chart in the calculator and count how many stems and hidden stems fall in each element category. Elements with zero or one occurrence are typically the weak ones; elements with three or more are excessive.
